Sometimes a straightforward building project can require geotechnical advice at short notice when work begins and the team on site are confronted with an unexpected geological feature. That’s exactly what happened on a recent house extension, where the builder discovered a 5m deep void when digging a shallow trench.
Integrale were called in to lend our expertise in the matter. Based on the area’s geology and our own past experience, we confidently identified the void as an “Extension Gull”, associated with ‘cambering’ of the local limestone strata. We quickly advised on an engineering solution so that the build could resume straight away and the clients can look forward to enjoying their new extension.
